Aperture (2021) concertino for bassoon and sinfonietta
Program Note
This bassoon concertino, written for Nanci Belmont and Contemporaneous, exists primarily as an exploration and celebration of the bassoon’s ability to play quick, skittering lines. Throughout the piece, the soloist shreds through ascending, scalar patterns while the ensemble evolves from sparse resonances of the bassoon to a luminous mechanism surrounding it.
